If you have recently upgraded or switched your digital television provider, then you are likely someone who cares a good bit about the quality of your viewing experience. If this is the case, then it makes sense to do everything you can to ensure that you are enjoying the clearest and most enjoyable television possible. So, if you have not done so already, you may want to start shopping around somewhere like the Marks & Spencer television section, where you can find the latest and most impressive high definition televisions.
Many people – even those who are enthusiastic about television – are unclear on the differences between different types of flat screen televisions. In general, the three about which you most often hear are Plasmas, LCDs, and LEDs, all of which fall under the category of “high definition flat screens.” So, what are the differences, and does one stand above the others?
Plasma televisions essentially started the wide spread of flat screens. What makes them unique is essentially a more simple functionality than their competitors. Basically, a plasma television uses pixels that can light themselves in order to bring you the picture that you see on your screen. People tend to find that this picture is sharper and clearer than what they usually see on other televisions.
LCD televisions, on the contrary, use a backlighting system to light their pixels, bringing the display to you in a slightly different way. In most people’s opinions, this method tends to bring about a slightly better picture than most plasma screens, and for a while this was seen as the best available option.
An LED television is simply a different type of LCD screen. Basically, the LCD technology is still used, but an LED backlighting system – a different and improved type of backlighting to the ones used in standard LCD televisions – is used to illuminate the picture. So, while the term “LED television” might be a bit misleading, as it implies a totally different type of machine, LED LCD televisions are generally seen as the best (and most expensive) options available in the high definition market.
Having said all of this, the most important thing is your perception of the different options. For some, the plasma screens are still perfectly adequate, and, these days, they are often cheaper. However, if you care deeply about the quality of your picture, and you consider yourself an avid television watcher, you will probably want to consider upgrading to a more advanced type of television. Either way, any of these televisions should help to improve your high definition experience.
